Surface Finishing
Surface finishing is the application of one material over the surface of another material for decorative or protective purposes. Surface finishing includes polishing, painting, plating, anodizing and other processes. Common examples are chromium applied to automobiles, gold on jewelry, nickel on computer hard drives, and paint on bicycle frames. Surface finishing is a generic name for a number of processes commonly used by most industries, including electronics, petroleum, aerospace, food, and machinery.
The History of SULFURIC.COM
SCI was formed in January 2000 as a sister company to Palm International, Inc. (Palm) also located in Tennessee. Palm is the largest manufacturer of high purity liquid nickel sulfate, chloride and sulfamate in the country. Palm also manufactures and distributes other chemicals and equipment to the surface finishing industry. The Palm group also includes Palm Instruments (which manufactures automatic controllers for plating baths) and Palm Freight (which handles transportation for Palm).
Palm has been a leader in technology and internet applications for a number of years. In 1995, Palm launched Industry-On-Line (IOL). Besides building and hosting web sites for other companies in the surface finishing industry, IOL designed, and maintained an industry portal named metal-finishing.com. The site, which offered industry news, forums, and a directory of goods and services, became the most visited web site in the surface finishing industry. It was sold in August 1999 to VerticalNet, a multi-billion dollar company specializing in industrial trade groups and portals for various vertical marketplaces.
